Lorraine Robertson (Illustrator)
Lorraine Robertson is the illustrator of Flaming Charli. She has a Ph.D. in Natural History Illustration from the University of Newcastle. Lorraine illustrated the D’harawal series of Seasons and Climate Cycles, Climate and Natural Resources and Dreaming Stories. Apart from painting and natural history illustration, she has extensive experience making prints and as a paper maker. Lorraine is a mother to two and grandmother to two. She lives near Lake Macquarie with her husband and Labrador – Caps.
To illustrate Flaming Charli, Lorraine hand-made paper which she tore and compiled into the components of each picture. She then painted the layouts with watercolour to reflect the vivid colours of the native flora and fauna of the bush. The technique Lorraine used gives her illustrations the texture of a collage and a 3D appearance.
